(New Album Review) Ados 33- Seven Sounds in Grey [EP]

On his self-released EP Seven Sounds in Grey, Portland drone devotee and gothic blues storyteller Ados 33 (also known from time to time as Tex Ados, another moniker of guitarist and sound design explorer Avery Gilbert III) takes us on a hypnagogic instrumental journey. Ados’s mystic blues invocation is put on hold for the space of a half an hour in the realm of these submerged, churning reminiscences. Steadily breathing drones of obscured origin are furrowed by towering waves of backwards-tumbling tracks that come at you like peaking realizations from unquiet dreams. Seven Sounds in Grey came out in early May, but you can’t help but feel that it captures that feeling of chilly, shortened days from behind winter’s shroud. This one comes highly recommended, not least because my friend Ados played the second Foreign Accents showcase show a month ago! The EP can be streamed in full on Soundcloud– check it out!
