(New Album Review) Beachers- Portrait

Beachers, Riga-based, London-raised artist Daryl Worthington, crafts electronic music that utilizes a wide range of means of creating or abducting sounds to create an overall style that’s suggestively subdued, always hinting at an external world that’s slightly indistinct from this point…perhaps it’s just in the next room over from this one. Worthington’s new album on Illuminated Paths, Portrait, is even more experimental than his debut under the Beachers moniker, Pretend.

Portrait is rhythmic, but is deliberately incongruent and disorienting. Is Worthington making nocturnal PC music with tape samples and field recordings or is he making sleepy, out-of-focus minimal electronica? This alternately lulling and paranoid urban dream just may pull you into its subterranean expanses…
